DR. STEPHEN S. TANG IS NOW PRESIDENT & CEO OF ORASURE TECHNOLOGIES
Team Pennsylvania would like to congratulate Co-chair Dr. Stephen S. Tang on his new position as President and CEO of the diagnostic testing and specimen collection company, OraSure Technologies, where he had been Board Chairman since 2016. Dr. Tang has served as President of the University City Science Center over the last decade, leaving a legacy of innovation and strengthened partnerships.
During his time at the University City Science Center, Dr. Tang led the institution to take strides in relationships and programming with entrepreneurs and the community. With initiatives like the national award-winning FirstHand program, Phase 1 ventures, the QED Proof-of-Concept funding program, the Digital Health Accelerator and Quorum programs under his care, Dr. Tang has displayed cutting-edge vision in his administration. Dr. Tang also oversaw the University City Science Center’s 735,000 square feet expansion with areas still growing as construction continues.
In a statement, Dr. Tang expressed, “It was an extremely difficult decision to leave the Science Center. I’ve been privileged to work with a dedicated board and lead a talented group of colleagues who are committed to the Science Center’s mission of inspiring and leading a diverse and inclusive community of innovation and entrepreneurship that nurtures and scales economic development through technology commercialization, business growth, and civic engagement.”
In his new role at OraSure, Dr. Tang will continue the work of his predecessor, former CEO Doug Michels, by taking advantage of OraSure’s successes over the last year, while finding new opportunities to build the company’s capabilities. That growth potential includes OraSure’s contribution to Lehigh Valley’s economic development: as the company continues on a path of success, that will, in turn, create more jobs in the area.
Dr. Tang’s term as co-chair of Team Pennsylvania will also be ending this upcoming June 2018. Dr. Tang has served on our Board of Directors 2012 and has been Co-Chair since 2015. Team Pennsylvania is proud to celebrate the transition of Co-chair Dr. Stephen Tang and wishes him all the best!
