Pennsylvania Celebrates Small Business Saturday

sm-bannerPennsylvania joined the rest of the country in participating Small Business Saturday on November 26, 2016. On one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year, it reminds consumers that the success of small businesses is essential to communities and our local economies. In 2014, an estimated $14.3 billion was spent at small, independent businesses on Small Business Saturday. In 2015, 95 million people shopped at small businesses on Small Business Saturday. Small Business Saturday is an initiative started by American Express in 2010 and encourages people across the country to support small, local businesses and to celebrate the critical contributions of entrepreneurs and small business owners.

Pennsylvania is home to nearly 1 million small businesses which employ 2.4 million individuals – which is almost half of the state’s private workforce. The economic impact of small businesses across the state is evident in all business sectors, from professional services to retail, construction to healthcare, manufacturing to education and beyond.
