Science Center to host networking event
It’s no secret there’s an art to networking. Turns out there’s science behind it too!
On Tuesday, April 28, the Science Center, in partnership with Campus Philly, will explore why networking comes easy for some and causes anxiety for others at “The Science of Networking.”
The program, which is part of the Philadelphia Science Festival, will run from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Quorum at the University City Science Center, 3711 Market Street, Suite 800, Philadelphia.
The Science of Networking will showcase the neuroscience behind networking and illustrate how to build a strong network. Attendees will have an opportunity to put their new skills to work during a post-program networking session with industry leaders. The program is open to students and professionals.
Panelists include Nick Marazzo, Director of Digital Learning at the Society of Hospital Medicine and President of Young Involved Philadelphia; Matt O’Donnell, Research Assistant Professor at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania; Cory Valente, Associate Scientist at The Dow Chemical Company. The panel will be moderated by Monet Thomas-Anderson, Program Manager, University Relations and Student Engagement at Campus Philly.
The Science of Networking is one of three Philadelphia Science Festival programs offered by the Science Center. On Sunday, April 26, participants will have a chance to take their selfie to the next level and create a one-of-a –kind family portrait at the DNA (Cell)fie Station. Participants will use a digital microscope to examine and photograph their cheek cells, hair follicles, and their own DNA.
On Thursday, April 30, the Science Center’s STEAM Initiatives program will host “Educate to Innovate,” which is designed to give educators access to the resources they’ll need to meet the needs of our changing educational paradigm. The STEM, STEAM and maker education movement is gaining traction and has even resulted in the White House challenging educators to Educate to Innovate. Both programs will be held at the Department of Making + Doing on the ground floor of 3711 Market Street.
