2014 list of Best Places to Work in PA revealed

The alphabetical list of the 100 Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania was revealed today by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) and Team Pennsylvania Foundation.

Team PA and DCED are founding partners and lead sponsors of the program, which pays tribute to top companies around the commonwealth. The numeric list of winners will be announced at a celebration dinner on Thursday, December 4 at the Lancaster County Convention Center in downtown Lancaster, Pa.

“Team Pennsylvania Foundation is honored to support a program that celebrates our two most valuable resources – a quality workforce and world-class businesses,” said Laura Williams, president and CEO, Team PA.

The 2014 Best Places to Work list represents companies with just over 35,700 employees throughout Pennsylvania.

“Today we are honoring the Pennsylvania companies who have transformed the workplace into places of opportunity where employees can build a career and a bright future,” said Governor Tom Corbett. “Your commitment to excellence and challenging of the conventional reflects the creativity and innovation that defines Pennsylvania’s business leaders. Congratulations to those who will be honored as one of the 100 Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania.”

The Best Places to Work in PA Program is generally made up of two groups of companies: 50 medium-sized (25-250 employees) and 50 large-sized companies (251 employees or more).  Through the research process, a survey is sent to both the employers and employees from hundreds of companies from across the commonwealth.

However, this year, more medium-sized companies scored higher marks than large-sized companies, so the list is made up of 72 small/medium-sized firms and 28 from the large category.

Winning companies achieve the highest combined scores in a twofold evaluation: review of a company’s workplace policies, practices, philosophies, systems and demographics (25%); and results of an employee survey to measure the employee experience (75%).

Using a formula similar to Fortune’s “100 Best Companies to Work for in America,” the Best Companies Group surveys and scores the workplace practices survey along with the employee survey and each Best Places to Work candidate is given an overall score.

The following is the listing of the small/medium- and large-sized companies in alphabetical order by city:
